how to be a loving and supportive

CATHOLIC parent of an LGBTQ+ child

Being a loving and supportive Catholic parent of an LGBTQ+ child means prioritizing your relationship and unconditional love over fear or rejection, following the Catechism's call to treat every person with respect, compassion, and sensitivity, and walking with your child through their unique journey.

  • Affirm unconditional love immediately: Tell your child directly that you love them and that nothing changes their worth or your commitment to them.

  • Prioritize the relationship: Focus on being a safe, welcoming presence in your child's life rather than letting anxiety or theological arguments fracture your bond.

  • Listen with compassion: Allow your child to share their authentic experiences and feelings without interruption, judgment, or argument.

If you’d like to talk to other parents who have LGBTQ+ children and can talk with you about their journey, call us at 470-344-4815. Leave a message and a listening parent will call you back within 24 hours.*
